The Low-Down on Motorcycle Wind Deflectors

LIMITED TIME OFFER! Purchase both Digits for Hands and Digits for Feet and SAVE $40! Use code DIG-3.

The purpose of a wind deflector is obvious...and if it doesn't do what it's supposed to, what's the point? And are the Desert Digits really the best?

We think so (and we've ridden with many different kinds). Here's why.

  • Flexible mounting

Most motorcycle wind deflectors are "hard" installed, meaning once they are clamped into place, they're not easily modifiable (though they may have a tw-plate angle option). Thanks to the Desert Digits "Ultra Swivel" design, this rain deflectors has literally UNLIMITED rotational ability.

Also, most wind deflectors are not "dual use" - in other words, you buy them for a specific location (like your hands or legs) and that's all they can do. Desert Digits wind deflectors can be mounted to ANY round bar, which means you can use them for your hands one day, and switch them to your legs the next.

  • Air funneling

The problem with traditional wind deflectors is that air (and rain) hits the surface of the wind deflector, bounces off, but still comes around the plate. Result: cold, wet legs or hands. The Desert Digits convex shape solves this problem by actually funneling the air around and to the outside of your legs. And the Desert Digits leg protectors' elongated shape (6" x 13") provides more coverage for your knees and legs!

  • Ease of use - and Removable

Other motorcycle wind deflectors require an hour or more to install - and you can't remove them easily. The Desert Digits base bracket installs in minutes with no special tools. The frame/cover itself can be easily removed when not in use and stored in a saddlebag or other location. The hardware is all stainless steel and chrome plated to prevent rust. ALL MADE IN THE USA!

    A SHORT PRODUCT REVIEW

Desert Dawgs as Wind Deflectors for your Legs
The easiest and least costly way to stay warmer and dryer on a motorcycle is by using the Desert Dawgs as wind deflectors. (You can find all kinds of details about the Desert Dawgs soft lowers here.)

Desert Digits Leg and Hard Guards
Desert Dawgs Rain Guards will keep a lot of those cold updrafts from coming up under your chin and helmet. If you combine them with the Desert Digits Wind Deflectors you can cut almost ALL those updrafts out - and your body will be protected from your feet all the way to your knees!

The Desert Digits are especially effective at protecting your hands. You may never need those bulky gloves again!

Wind Deflectors that attach to frames, tubes and windshields

These types of wind deflectors are often available from the motorcycle manufacturers as well as . In our quest for motorcycle comfort, we tried MANY of them ... and we were disappointed. The wind and rain strikes the surface but still gets funnelled - in most cases, right up under your chin!

    Baker Built Air Wings

The Air Wings were more effective than other wind deflectors that attach to frames, tubes and windshields. However, they cost more than other wind deflectors, and it does take a fair amount of time to install and then "experiment" until you get the positioning right (which I never did). In contrast, the Desert Dawgs Rain Guards and Desert Digits Wind Deflectors are on and off in minutes.
